Alia Hammad

Junior Analyst

Alia Hammad holds a Master's in International Law, specializing in International Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. Her professional journey has been driven by a deep interest in bridging the intersections of these two bodies of law, maintaining their complementarity. Her early work with human rights organizations focused on addressing issues like arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture, militarization of the criminal justice system, and unfair trials amongst others. Before joining DFS, she worked as a UNV with the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) doing secondary data review and analysis reports on Gaza. There, she quickly developed a passion for humanitarian data analysis, particularly for the idea of alleviating the impact of armed violence or crises situations on civilian populations by supporting humanitarian organizations on the ground through concise data analysis and information management. She has interned at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), an experience which reinforced her passion for advocating for justice and human dignity. When not behind a screen working, you will likely find her off somewhere on a walk, reading a book, immersed in introspection, or catching up on sleep.
